View From The Chair (formerly known as "Restraints") is a formerly unidentified post-punk revival/synth rock song by the Cork based band La Belle Alliance, released in 2009 on the album Children of God.

Search History[]

The song was first posted to WatZatSong on August 8th, 2010, user Francesc. They didn’t provide any information about the song, and it was very low quality.

They linked the full song on YouTube, but sometime before May 9th, 2024, the video was terminated for violating the site's terms of service, and it wasn't archived.[1]

On February 8th, 2024, user SicksadworldLA posted the song to YouTube. The video was a mixtape of songs recorded off of El Laboratorio de Relax, a Peruvian radio show run by DJ Relax. The description read:

"Sixth compilation of recordings of some classics in this segment and some rarities tuned to Radio Doble Nueve."

"I can't identify some tracks, so they remain unknown."

Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as MistaEgg, Ofrix, S2h, Q, AlianTheObscure, and multiple others, amassing over 3k views.

On September 16th 2025, Discord user Nel identified the song as View From The Chair by La Belle Alliance after scanning the song through WerZatSong during the ReverbNation fingerprinting project.

A day later, the band's lead singer and founder, John McCarthy, uploaded an official lyrics viceo onto his YouTube channel[2]. He also thanked the people that liked the song.[3]

Ruled Out Leads[]

EZ Basic[]

The song was heavily theorized to be by Hungarian band EZ Basic, due to the vocalist sounding very similar to this song, and DJ Relax playing songs by the band before. The members were contacted, but none of them responded. The lead has since been ruled out following the identification of the song.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I was a first time offender
Astray is where I was led
The judge threw the book straight at me
And it smacked me in the head

[Chorus]
Restraints go on my arms, go on now
Restraints go on my legs, go on now
Restraints go on my arms, go on now
Restraints go on my legs, go on now

[Verse 2]
Dragged out in handcuffs and shame
Nothing is amiss
Except for my ball and chain
I curl my hand in a fist

[Chorus]
Restraints get pulled a little tighter
Restraints get pulled a little tighter
Restraints get pulled a little tighter
Restraints get pulled a little tighter

[Verse 3]
So here I am, thrown into the chair
Innocent and guilty, crippled with fear
I would walk to the ends of the earth for you
And pick flowers on the way
I would walk to the ends of the earth for you
And pick flowers on the way

[Outro]
Lever falls ten thousand volts
Lever falls ten thousand volts
Lever sends ten thousand volts
Lever falls ten thousand volts
Lever falls ten thousand volts
Lever sends ten thousand volts
Lever falls ten thousand volts
Lever falls ten thousand volts
Lever sends ten thousand volts
