The song was first posted to WatZatSong on September 10th, 2022, by user Sailorfreak. They said the song came from the โ1983 tapeโ. They posted the full version to Vocaroo, and at the end the DJ said the song was by a musician called Patty Wolfe, but there wasnโt any thing else to confirm it.
On October 21st, 2022, the OP posted the full radio broadcast the song was on. It was recorded off of San Francisco college radio, KUSF, on Thanksgiving (November 27th) of 1983. The DJ was named Ray Michaels, but he passed away in 2011, so he couldnโt be contacted.
On December 21st, 2022, user FatBird discovered a musician named Patty Wolfe who lived in San Francisco. She had an album titled Postcards From Patty which included old recordings sheโd done, but the song wasnโt in it and there was no evidence of her doing a cover of Johnny Get Angry at the time. As Patty passed away in 2016, confirmation would be difficult.
On December 3rd, 2024, YouTube user Q reuploaded the song to her channel. Only three days later, on December 6th, 2024, Discord user Marktrail found a mention of Patty Wolfe doing a cover of Jonny Get Angry in a 1984 magazine. Apparently the song had an accompanying music video directed by Richard Jett but it has yet to be found.
Thereโs debate in whether or not the song should be considered verification needed, or fully identified. Some notable users consider it fully solved due to evidence of Patty doing a cover existing, while others consider it nearly solved due to lack of HQ audio, and Richard Jett hasnโt responded to any messages about the song.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Johnny, I said we were through
Just to see what you would do
You stood there, hung your head
Made me wish that I were dead
[Chorus]
Johnny get angry, Johnny get mad
Give me the biggest lecture I ever had
I want a brave man, I want a cave man
Johnny, show me that you know how to care for me
[Verse 2]
Every time you dance with me
You let Freddy cut in constantly
When he does, you never speak
Must you always be so meek?
[Chorus]
Oh, Johnny get angry, Johnny get mad
Give me the biggest lecture I ever had
I want a brave man, I want a cave man
Johnny, show me that you know how to care for me
[Instrumental]
[Verse 3]
Every girl wants someone who
She can always look up to
You know I love you, of course
Let me know that you're the boss
[Chorus]
Johnny get angry, Johnny get mad
Give me the biggest lecture I ever had
I want a brave man, I want a cave man
Johnny, show me that you know how to care for me
