Search History

In 2002, René M. posted the song to his website DeDiniDevil.de. He said the song was recorded off of a German radio station in October of 1987 and he remembered the artist's name as being similar to Base Bazaar, and the song title being Trip To Rio.

Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as JayKay, LostwaveFinder, Antonio's Remastered Works, Q, Tony Pierre, Revolutionary_War, Ofrix, Zumi, SpikeytheCactus, LostwaveTT, and multiple others, amassing over 100k views.

On July 1st, 2021, a channel for the song was made on the Fond My Mind Discord Server, along with Rene's other unknown songs, Poor Christmas, Eastern Wind, and Documania Instrumental, this song being put in the "Main Unknowns" category.

On November 25th, 2021, the OP posted a longer snippet of the song to YouTube, and said that he possibly recorded it from Radio FFN or HR 3. He also provided the full tracklist from the tape, which also included Poor Christmas.

Leads and Theories

Paradise Bazaar

On June 10th, 2022, Discord user Terrified Toad discovered a German band called Paradise Bazaar on a wiki page for the 1986 Senate Rock Competition, an event held to give:

“almost unknown talents the opportunity to present their skills to the wider public”.

The demo tapes from the competition, including the songs by Paradise Bazaar, are in the Berlin Archive Of Youth Culture.

On July 9th, 2024, someone at the archive named Daniel said the song wasn’t on the tape, but said the band’s style sounded similar to Trip To Rio, but “less poppy, with more experimental sounds and a little reminiscent of Joy Division”.

But he said he couldn’t rule out the possibility of the band being the same and “someone should listen to it more closely and compare the singers’ voices”.

Reddit user Sumake visited the archive in person. He said Paradise Bazaar’s songs sounded “wavier” than Trip To Rio, but he said the vocals were “somewhat” similar. After listening to the songs again, he said

“there were too many similarities to be just coincidence”.

Sumake was able to find the name of a band member (which is being kept private to prevent them from being spammed with messages). User PersonOfDistraction found them, but is unable to contact them.

Lyrics

Yesterday I found a ticket
For a flight to Brasilia
I was wondering why you bought it

Now I just came home
Unto what's missing
It's you
Now I just came home
Unto what's missing
It's you

Where you go, I will follow
Even to Brasilia
Ten thousand miles from home
I’ve got to find you
Oh, Oh Rio
I'll fly to Brasilia
Oh, Oh, Rio
Into the sunshine

Brazilian girls aren’t interested-
