The song was first posted to WatZatSong on April 19th, 2015 by user TipoDual. He didn’t provide any information about where he got the song from, but he provided the full version to zippyshare.[1]
On December 20th, 2016, TipoDual reposted the song to YouTube. He didn’t provide any information about any of the songs he posted but he gave this one the placeholder name “Mona Lisa”.
In 2021, TipoDual came back and said the song originated from a USB flash drive made in August of 2014 of songs that played in a KFC in Moscow, Russia. The USB included multiple other unidentified songs.[2]
After more of the songs in the playlist were identified, it was discovered that every song in the playlist had been licensed from MP3.com via the site's "Business Music Service" program and were from ~1999-2003.
On September 12th, 2023, user Isle7 found a tweet from 2016 by user Mandi Strochotoa that quoted the lyrics of the song. At the end of the tweet they tagged the artist of the song as Wozani.[1][3]
Isle searched the band up and found that they had a song called Throw me Down. Isle found another song by the band, and the voices sounded similar[1], but the song couldn’t be considered identified yet due to lack of audio.
On September 15th, 2023, the song was fully identified as Throw Me Down by Wozani when Mandi was contacted and she confirmed it was the same song, though she was out of town so she couldn’t provide HQ audio[4], but HQ audio was provided by Isle after he bought the album.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Though I'm distressed
I'm no silly damsel
The more you throw at me
Well, the more I can handle
[Chorus]
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
[Verse 2]
Well, I'd hold my breath
If I could, climb a tree
To knock on wood
If it would do any good, I would
[Chorus]
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
[Verse 3]
I'd drive up your street
Grinning my teeth, my legs feel wеak
I don't like my own thoughts
But I'd a-rather you not speak
[Chorus]
Throw mе down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
[Bridge]
Well, hello, sorrow, my old friend
You've still got my old number
A busy signal didn't stop ya
You couldn't wait to pull me under
Well, hello, sorrow, my old friend
I wish you wouldn't call
I can't stand your guts
I didn't miss you at all
[Chorus]
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Throw me down, throw me down
Throw me down, step on me
I'm no Mona Lisa
You're not drawing me
Well, hello, sorrow
[Acoustic guitar]
[Outro]
Down, down, down, down
Down, down, down
Down, down, down, down
Down, down
Down, down, down, down
Down, down
Down, down, down
Throw me down, down
Down, down
Down, down
Down, down
Down, down, throwing me down
Throw me, throw me down
Throw me, throw me, throw me down
Down, down
Down, down, down
Down, down
Down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down
Down, down
Down, down, down, down
Down, down, down
Down, down, down
Down, down, down, down
Down, down, down
Down, down
