The Squid Song is an unidentified a cappella about a squid. The song was posted onto a (now defunct) internet forum misattributed to the the post-punk band Beaverloop.

The song was first posted to YouTube on June 2nd, 2013 by user Alan Smithee. The video was titled "Unknown - The Squid Song", and it's description read:
“I have no idea what this is and I don’t remember where I got it from. If you have any idea where this came from, let me know!”
On December 23rd, 2017, the OP reposted the song to their other channel Duke Of The Bump, titling it "Unidentified squid song". They still didn’t provide any information about where the song came from. On February 21st, 2024, the OP commented on the video and updating the description, providing more information. They said:
"Here's everything I know about this song: it was posted on a small web forum (less than 100 members, now defunct) around 2013. It was mistagged as "Leon" by Beaverloop, from a seemingly nonexistent album called "The Dissonance Abroad". The person who posted the song also had no idea where it came from or why it was tagged with the title of a different song by a known punk band. Beaverloop is an Australian band, and the poster was from Australia, so that's likely where the song originates. If you have any idea where it came from, please let us know."[1]
The original video was eventually privated on February 24th, 2024, due to “a lot of people being jerks in the comments”.[2]
When user Trippydrew asked the OP what the forum was called, they said it was either Poe News or Bo News, and they didn't remember if the users from the forum had left by 2013.[3]
Later in 2024, the OP said the person who first posted it knew the song wasn't by Beaverloop, and they posted it because they wanted help identifying it[4]
Theories[]
Due to it being an amateur song, it is theorized that the song was created for a school assignment. It is unknown why it was misattributed to Beaverloop.
In the now privated original upload of the song, a few commenters claimed that they heard it on PBS, but nothing has been confirmed.
