The Piano is a formerly unidentified ballad song by Californian musicians Ben Boquist and Brian Graden, recorded in 2015 and the song was never officially released.

Search History[]

The song was leaked onto utopiaparkwaymusic.com on February 15th, 2015, along with other demos by the same artist, Remember You, Bells, I’ll Grow Old With You, Better Off Without You, and The Grand Parade.

The song was posted to YouTube on January 2nd, 2021 by user Dacine, who had downloaded the song from that website.

On March 25th, 2023, user Q uploaded the song, along with the other songs. Almost immediately after, the YouTube copyright system identified the first song as Remember You by Ben Boquist and Brian Graden. Q checked the upload of Remember You, and also found Bells.

Both songs were officially released in 2021, the versions leaked on utopiaparkwaymusic were demo versions. None of the other leaked songs were officially released, so there wasn’t any way to fully confirm they were also by Ben and Brian.

So on April 8th, 2023, Q asked Ben on Twitter if he and Brian made the demos, but he never responded. Despite multiple attempts to contact him, he never responded. The songs were likely confirmed after Brian Graden was contacted. The title isn’t fully confirmed, but the file name is “The Piano”.

Lyrics[]

Work today was crazy and my feet are sore
Eight hours of standing on a concrete floor
Maybe I should quit
But heaven knows I need the money, so I guess I'll stay

Rent is due tomorrow and my funds are low
Cause the law just towed my vehicle a week ago
Now I'm out a couple hundred
While I'm waiting for my bank account to grow

But when I'm at the piano
All that goes away
And my thoughts are with melody
And chords I play
Now I'm talking to my muses
And they're telling it's gonna be OK

When I'm at the piano
I am wild and free
There's a steady stream of music
Pouring out of me
All the notes I hear surprise me
And there isn't anywhere I'd rather be

But of course, eventually the phone will ring
Bringing some new crisis changing everything
Somebody who needs me
Someone angry, something I forgot I had to do

Then that I'll remember my impounded car
Once again be forced to see things as they are
Back to disappointment
Back to details, back to suffering on through

But since I'm at the piano
That can wait a while
With these keys under my fingers
I can't help but smile
And this hour's more important
Than the million petty problems of the day

When I'm at the piano
Then my mind is free
To be anywhere
Or anyone it wants to be
And I'm talking to my muses
And they're telling it's gonna be OK

And I know that life goes on
This feeling may soon be gone
And I know the problems will not wait for me
But inside this moment, I can clearly see
Nothing out there could take this light from me
Won't let it go, cause I know

I've been talking to my muses
And I know that they will never let me go
