On June 10th, 2023, user Kenny Cathead posted a one hour and 25 minute video called "Unknown" to YouTube. It featured many snippets recorded off of the radio in the 1980s. The snippet played at two minutes and 16 seconds in the video.

Kenny reposted the song to his WatZatSong account NY80sTapes a week, later giving it the placeholder name “Psychedelic Dissonance”. The song was recorded off of a radio station in New York or New Jersey around 1981.

On November 24th, 2023, on the FMM Discord thread for the songs he posted Kenny said that he wasn’t the person who recorded the tapes, but instead a friend who was trying to make a sound collage, but he recorded a few things.

On September 6th, 2024, the song was identified by Discord users SDB and RojoCatto as The Merger by It's The Hendersons after SDB identified Catchy Upbeat Track as being by the same band, and RojoCatto found audio of the single’s B-Side, which was this song.

Lyrics

They said I
Was crazy to break the chain
That I’d beg forgiveness

I’m not lost
Or drifting
I’m in control
I can see quiet living
And I’m a reckless renegade
I have clear objectives

How do you plead my friend
The charge is banality
The charge is dependency
There will be no leniency

A strange infection
Is in the wire
And it’s spreading like plague
Like plague
But you can’t hear me anyway
You won’t hear me through the wire

How long can you withstand
This grinding of gears
Where is your breaking point?
You must have a breaking point
