The Future (formerly known as "We'll Watch The World As It Happily Ends" also known as "Watch The World End" or "The Future") is a formerly unidentified power pop song by The Blades, it was falsely claimed to be a Paul McCartney/Wings studio outtake.[1]

History[]

The song's earliest known online mention dates to around 1998 when Randwolf included it on his website, which aimed at cataloging recordings of The Beatles (note that Randwolf also was the OP of another unknown bootleg collection, Wings - Wild Wonders).[2]

On February 15th, 2016, user Kestrel started a thread on the song on Maccaboard, a forum dedicated to all topics related to Paul McCartney. [3]

On October 30th, 2020, user Solaris Morse started a thread on the Steve Hoffman Music Forums, requesting help in identifying the song's true artist.[4]

On March 5th, 2025, The song was identified by user Aidnic as "The Future" by The Blades.

Leads[]

Blades

On April 26th, 2024, a lead was brought up regarding a 1979 song called "The Future" by a '70s band from Long Island called Blades. However, no recording of 'The Future' could be found, making the lead currently unconfirmed. Members of the band were as following (from left to right of the attached photograph): Terry Dugan, Jim Corkery, Gene Tunney, Michael Gormley, and Dennis Corkery.

On October 26th, Michael Gormley confirmed that the song is indeed by Blades and even provided old photographs and promotional material of the band. Gormley is currently looking for the tape.

Presumed lyrics[]

-Nuclear Ford
We'll watch the world end until we get bored
Come on and join, have a blast
Big blast, and put me in a mast
If it doesn't end then we can just play those games

Got a jam in my Mercedes Benz
We'll watch the world as it happily ends
Follow me to my modular home
We'll play a ditty on parties of gold
Oh, baby, Judith, where are you?

Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future (x8)

(Uncertain)
Give me another man and put me in the hold
Don't sing about energy
And the beast won't follow me
Oh, baby, Judith, where are you?

Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future (8x)

Got a jam in my Mercedes Benz
We'll watch the world as it happily ends
Follow me to my modular home
We'll play a ditty on parties of gold
Oh, baby, Judith, where are you?

Hey there (possibly "little") girl
Well, I love you
I see you walk
Remember you
You (Uncertain) round'
You spin my life
You fill (Uncertain) with sorrow

Hey good girl
Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future
Well, I love you
Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future
I see you walk
Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future
Remember you
Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future
You (Uncertain) round'
Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future
You spin my life
Ah, ah, ah, ah, the future
You fill (Uncertain) with sorrow
