The Best Is Yet To Come is an unidentified pop rock song posted to YouTube by user BeatlesBootlegs9[1]. It originated from a tape of songs misattributed to Paul McCartney And Wings.
Search History[]
Sometime around 1987, bootleggers circulated the song on audio tapes, mislabeling it as a Paul McCartney & Wings studio outtake.[2]This song is the third track on the tape.
This lead to the song being featured in two separate newsletters devoted to unofficial Beatles recordings, Scott Belmer featured it in 1987, and L.R.E. King subsequently included it in another newsletter in 1989 as a direct response to Scott Belmer's review of the song.
The song's earliest known online mention dates to sometime around 1998 when user Randwolf included it on his now-defunct website, which aimed at cataloging recordings of The Beatles.[3]
On July 13th, 2018, user BeatlesBootlegs9 posted the song to YouTube, along with all the other songs on the tape. The tape said the song was from 1975.
Despite this, the song is most likely from the late 1970's or even 1980's. All songs on the tape including this one range from bad quality to almost unlistenable quality. (TBIYTC is more on the unlistenable side).
The artists behind the four identified songs from the tape are all from Long Island, New York. And according to one of them, their songs were submitted to various radio contests in the late '70s, such as WBAB 102.3's Homegrown Hour show and WALK's radio show's, which was dedicated to showcasing local talent. These shows are likely the source from which bootleggers stole the song.
Leads[]
There is a minor lead that claims the song is:
Jonathan Dinkin & Alice Marie Smurthwaite - The Best Is Yet To Come (1979)
This was found as an entry on cocatalog that claims 2 people made it and the date set as June 11th 1979. This would line up with the dates of the bootleg tape being made and it would make sense as another song on the tape called "Shake Up Your Engines"[4] was solved and was from 1977 which is not the same as what BeatlesBootlegs9 wrote on the video thumbnails showing that the song was from 1974.[5] This is 3 years off BeatlesBootlegs9's upload as "The Best Is Yet To Come" is apparently released in 1979 and the video image claims 1975.[6]
Jonathan is also from the Long Island area, according to his Facebook[7], the same area that the creators of the 4 solved Wild Wonders tracks were from, which all seemed to be sent to WBAB 102.3 radio[8] (and also WPIX) and is most likely where the bootlegger's took the songs. He was also a musician with his band "Jonathan Dinkin & The Klezmercuse"[9] which made music in the 1990's, 2000's and 2010's which have all been uploaded to Youtube and other streaming services.
Contact was attempted with Jonathan since 24/5/24, it was later found that he had died in 2023. Contact was made with his niece, Casey, who sent over questions about the song to Jon's wife, Aveeya, who has yet to respond. Contact has also been attemped with the other copyright claimant of the song, Alice Marie Smurthwaite, which is also unsuccessful.
Presumed Lyrics[]
You're going fine, follow the lifeline,
Don't care if it's good, I don't care,
Gotta use your head, and why do I always forget,
And then, the best is yet to come,
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
You know this roadblock that will knock down that truck,
Look out! The best is yet to come,
Oh no don't leave, I've left this big town,
Oh you know the ragged edge is rough,
You know the highest love is higher than ever done,
And now! The best is yet to come,
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
You know this roadblock that will knock down that truck,
Look out! The best is yet to come,
Don't go away,
Look away,
Every single day,
You'll keep on fighting through her,
You're always moving by the next turn,
Suffocated through your love,
We're moving on and other loves and friends are gone,
Look out! The best is yet to come,
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
You know this roadblock that will knock down that truck,
Look out! The best is yet to come,
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come) (Woo!)
The best is yet to come,
(The best is yet to come)
The best is yet to come,
(The best-)
