Search history
Around the late 90s to early 2000s, the song began being spread across the internet; with either misattributed artists credited, or no artist credited at all.
It was first mentioned in January of 2000, when a user of the They Might Be Giants forum asked if they made the song.[1] A month later, another user on the Frank Zappa forums complained about how songs on Napster were constantly being mislabeled, citing the Beer Song as one of the songs constantly mislabeled on the site.[2] These Napster uploads are considered the oldest known uploads of the song.
It was included in a bootleg compilation for the band They Might Be Giants that was released sometime in the early 2000s.[3] It was also included in an AMV for the anime Trigun[4], although the original upload of the AMV, originally posted in 2001, is lost.[5]
The earliest surviving upload of the song was posted by Masonogy1 on Newgrounds[6] on September 7th, 2003.
Around 2006-2008, several uploads of the song were uploaded on YouTube with various misattributes.
On May 27th, 2006, the most popular video of the song was released as "Lego Beer Song[7]", which depicts Lego minifigures singing and doing parts of the song. The description of the video states that the artist was unknown.
Leads
Beer Man

A lead focuses on a Beer Man novelty toy. The toy has a soundbox that plays a uniquely different version of the Beer Song. This version is lacking the section with the son and dad, has a unique take on the "We like to drink 'til we spew—ew!" line, and plays a shortened version of the chorus. The origins of this version of the song are unknown.

Lyrics
With the discovery of Beer Man containing a different version of the song, both versions are listed below.
Variation 1 (original)
Oh, what is the malted liquor?
What gets you drunker quicker?
What comes in bottles or in cans? (Beer!)
Can't get enough of it (Beer!)
How we really love it (Beer!)
Makes me think I'm a man! (Beer!)
I can kiss and hug it (Beer!)
But I'd rather chug it (Beer!)
Got my belly up to here! (Beer!)
I could not refuse a (Beer!)
I could really use a
Beer, beer, beeeer!
(Beer, beer, beer, beer
Beer, beer, beer, beer)
I can't remember how much I have had
I drank a twelve pack with my dad
That's my son the drunken, manly stud
I'm proud to be his bud!
Here, have some pretzels
No, I'll call it quits
Those things give me the Schlitz!
HAHAHAHA
Drink with your family, drink it with your friends
Drink 'til your fat stomach distends!
Beer is liquid bread, it's good for you
We like to drink 'til we spew—ew!
Who cares if we get fat?
I'll drink to that!
As we sing once more
What is the malted liquor?
What gets you drunker quicker?
What comes in bottles or in cans? (Beer!)
Can't get enough of it (Beer!)
How we really love it (Beer!)
Makes me think I'm a man! (Beer!)
I can kiss and hug it (Beer!)
But I'd rather chug it (Beer!)
Got my belly up to here! (Beer!)
Golly, I adore it (Beer!)
Come on, damnit, pour it
Do it for me, brew it for me
Feed it to me, speed it to me (Beer!)
The most wonderful drink in the world
Hooray! (burp)
