The song originated from a montage of Vietnam War footage titled "VIETNAM WAR MUSIC video HD and still they come" posted to YouTube on March 5th, 2012, by user blackadder73nz. The artist wasn’t credited anywhere in the video.
On April 22nd, 2012, Blackadder commented on the video, saying the song was called “And Still They Come”, but didn’t say who made the song. Multiple users asked who made it, but he never responded and eventually went inactive in late 2014.
2023
On December 4th, 2023, Discord user Lexal8054 discovered that the OP’s name was Robert Inkpen, found his Facebook account, and discovered that he made a post about the video and said his brother-in-law was the guitarist of the song.
A day later, Lexal discovered that his brother-in-law was a musician named Dennis Hansell, after they found the Facebook page of Robert’s wife, and saw that she referred to herself as the “aunty” of Dennis’ daughter.
On December 9th, 2023, Discord user TomLostwave contacted Robert, and he confirmed that he knew a member of the band behind the song, but said he hasn’t seen him in a “long time”, and will ask him about information on the song.
On December 31st, 2023, Robert responded, and said the song was released between 2004-2008, was only made by two guys, and the singer was named Marco. He said he’d search for more songs by them, but said they might be lost. He later said he didn’t know Marco’s last name.
2024
On May 5th, 2024, Dennis commented on the original video, confirming the song was his, saying:
”The song was written by a guy from Brisbane whose name is Marco Mazzei. It’s called “Still They Come”. It was recorded in his bedroom studio around about 2007 /2008. Marco had the song written and the tracks recorded he gave me the stems and I wrote the main riff and lead guitar parts and recorded them seperately in my bedroom studio. Marco then mixed and mastered an mp3 which I was given a copy of.
About 13 years ago my brother in law, blackadder73, asked if he could use as a backing track for a video
I can no longer find the copy of mp3 file and moved to [New Zealand] in 2009 and have lost contact give Marco.
Marco was the lead vocalist of the defunct Australian band The Method. A 2010 Facebook post from The Method mentioned a song titled Still They Come [1][2], but since there wasn’t any audio available online as most of the band’s music is lost, the song was in verification needed.
On August 5th, 2024, Discord user Murphy contacted the Tunecore publishing company who claimed videos with other The Method songs, he got a reply from someone named Stevie, confirming it was the song, marking it fully identified as Still They Come by Marco Mazzei and Dennis Hansell.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
All the shadows that move across my wall
Keep me up in the night as the darkness calls
All the devils and saints are in my mind
If I scream out at night, it'll be my time, it'll be my time
It'll be my time, it'll be my time
[Verse 2]
I can see them at night flying next to me
All those thoughts in my mind, help me, I can't breathe
See the struggle it fight, shadow scream in mind
Leave my maker tonight, leave the devil behind, leave the devil behind
[Pre-chorus]
Leave the devil behind, leave the devil behind, behind, behind, behind, behind
[Chorus]
They're watching you, they're watching me
I can help you now, I can help you see
And still they come
[Guitar riff]
[Verse 3]
Standing close to the end for everyone in this world
People die without clothes, say their stories aren't told
All the shadows still and it's a motion call
But light the fire in your eyes, still the devils they come, still the devils they come
[Pre-chorus]
Still the devils they come, still the devils they come, they come, they come, they come, they come
[Chorus]
They're watching you, they're watching me (they're watching me)
I can help you now, I can help you see (they're watching me)
They're watching you, they're watching me (they're watching me)
I can help you now, I can help you see
And still they come, and still they come
Still the devils they come, and still they come
[Bridge]
Still the devils they... and still they come
Still the devils they come, and still they come
Still the devils they come, still the devils they come
Still the devils they come, they come, they come, they come, they come
[Chorus]
They're watching you, they're watching me (they're watching me)
I can help you now, I can help you see (they're watching me)
They're watching you, they're watching me (they're watching me)
I can help you now, I can help you see
And still they come
