Not to be confused with Stay By My Side, Baby.

Stay By My Side (also known as Dream Your Dream or Dusk Tonight) is an unknown song that most likely originates from Greek discos.

History

On March 5, 2008, Spirit of Radio user Jugge uploaded it to the website with no comment on the backstory. The snippet was 0:49 and was missing the intro.[1] On December 22 that same year, a user named Konstantinos uploaded the same song to WatZatSong[2]. The full version was uploaded to zshare, which is no longer active. Konstantinos claimed the song was too fast.

In March 2009, user DJK made a few posts asking for the identification of several songs[3][4]. Both of these included the same link to SBMS which was posted by Konstantinos on WZS. In one of these posts he said that he already tried posting the song on New Wave Outpost but (as of February 2021) his post hasn't been found yet.

On a forum post in June 2009, Konstantinos said that the song came from an old disco compilation tape from Greece. He says it is likely European.[5]

In August 2020, the snippet from WatZatSong posted by Konstantinos and the snippet posted by Jugge on spiritofradio.ca were combined into an extended version by BSP015. In October 2020, Jugge was contacted and said that he got the song from someone else who he doesn't remember. It is speculated that this is Konstantinos.

On March 1, 2021, Konstantinos, after years of inactivity, thanked the community for the search efforts. Due to his new found activity, nonoseacrest mentioned him about SBMS. The next day, he posted the full version to WeTransfer. The full version can be found here. With this, Konstantinos added that he used to collect cassettes from flea markets from 1994-2004 and was interested in mid-80s synth pop, minimal, and euro disco songs from discotheques and pirate radio stations. He also revealed that he sold his entire record collection between 2010 and 2011, and no longer owns the original tape.

Leads

There are not and have never been any significant leads. One Reddit user "seriously considered" Phil Collins a lead due to the similar sounding voice, but this is highly unlikely due to Collins' popularity and different style. Others speculate a Newgrounds origin, but this would contradict Konstantinos' claim that it's from a Greek disco tape.

Lyrics

[Intro]
Oh no, yeah yeah yeah
Yeaaah
Whoa, no, no, no, yeah!

[Verse 1]
Stay by my side
You are the one to rise and high
You're reachin'
You’re on my mind
You’re in my memories tonight

[Chorus 1]
Dream your dream
All by my side
(By my side, oh yeah yeah)
You may see (you may see)
The dusk tonight

[Verse 2]
I’m chained in lust
To you, my fairytale of pain
I’m cryin’
Enslaved, I’m scarred
And burdened shadows of delight

[Chorus 2]
Dream your dream
All by my side
(By my side, oh yeah yeah)
You may see (you may see)
The dusk tonight (dusk tonight)

[Bridge]
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Yeah, yeah, yeah)
Whoa, no, no, no, yeah!
Dream your dream!
Dream your dream!
Yeah! (yeah, yeah)

[Chorus 2]
Dream your dream
All by my side
(By my side, oh yeah yeah)
You may see (you may see)
The dusk tonight (dusk tonight)

[Outro]
I remember
(I remember)
What's my promise?
(And I promise)
I regret my understandings, into my way
(Dream your dream!)
Take your way now
And my lighting, (and my lighting)
And the shadows are bent all around
(Dream your dream!)
No one sees me, (No one sees me)
No one needs me, (No one needs me)
You're without your fears and doubts to me
