Spelling On The Stone is a 1988 song that has been said to be made by Elvis Presley despite the fact that he passed away in 1977. In fact, the song was most likely recorded by Dan Willis as an uncredited artist, impersonating Elvis, and released as a single by LS Records in response to sightings of him following his death. However, still many believe it's sung by him.
History[]
The song involved the three, Tony Crowe, Lee Stoller and Jimmy Young as producers, refering to the recording by an anonymous person[1] sent to Lee's daughter Tammy in August 1988. Lee released the song on radio in the first time, with the single's release not crediting an artist.

Leads[]
According to auther Mike Eder in the book Elvis Music FAQ, the song is considered to be "an interesting artifact of the 'Elvis is alive' mania that existed in the late eighties." He also stated that the vocalist had been identified as Dan Willis. To this, other music experts have expressed similar opinions. Reporter Ron Sylvester of The Springfield News-Leader stated:
"If you hear Willis sing, you might draw a conclusion as to the identity of the mysterious Elvis-sounding voice on that record."

Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
People wonder, people ask
In my present, in my past
I never left, I haven't gone
Check the spelling on the stone
It was my leaving, you're listening
I did my faith, some how [?????]
My secrets' out, so many known
Check the spelling on the stone
[Chorus]
The legendary never die
It's up to you to decide
Stay the work, now I come home
Check the spelling on the stone
[Verse 2]
Would you miss me quite a thing?
Have another come to refrain
So the truth may now be known
Check the spelling on the stone
[Chorus]
The legendary never die
It's up to you (sing the song) to decide
Stay the work, now I come home
Check the spelling on the stone
[Refrain]
Oh, check the spelling on my stone
Trivia[]
- The song's title and last lyrics of each chorus, "Spelling on the stone" obviously refers to the fact that the spelling of Elvis's middle name is "Aaron" on his tombstone where other sources have "Aron". This became one of the reasons why the "Elvis Presley is still alive" theory rose among conspiracy theorists at the time.
