"Smooth Jazz Excerpt" is an unidentified instrumental jazz excerpt from 1980-1981, recorded by NY80sTapes.

On June 10th, 2023, user Kenny Cathead posted a one hour and 25 minute video titled “Unknown” to YouTube. It featured many snippets recorded off of the radio in the 1980s. This song played towards the end of the video.

Kenny reposted the song to his WatZatSong account NY80sTapes on June 22nd, 2023, saying in the post's description: "Smooth Jazz 1980-81; I wish I had more than 10 seconds but I don't".

On November 24th, 2023, on the FMM Discord thread for the songs he posted, Kenny said that he wasn’t the person who recorded the tapes, but instead a friend who was trying to make a sound collage, but he recorded a few things.

On March 31st, 2024, YouTube user BloostMedia reuploaded the snippet to his channel, providing more information on where it could've been recording from, saying: "most likely from WRVR, NY station", WRVR is a famous New York based radio station that mainly focuses on playing jazz.
