The song was first posted to WatZatSong on July 19th, 2015, by user TipoDual. He didn’t provide any information about where he got the song from, but he posted the full version to zippyshare.[1]
On December 19th, 2016, TipoDual reposted the song to YouTube. He still didn’t provide any information about any of the songs he posted, but gave this one the placeholder name “I’ll Show You My Hand”.
2021-2022[]
In 2021, the OP came back and said that all the songs he posted had originated from a USB made in August 2014 of songs played in a KFC in Moscow, Russia. The USB included multiple other unidentified songs.[2]
After more of the songs in the playlist were identified, it was discovered that every song in the playlist had been licensed from MP3.com via the site's "Business Music Service" program and were from ~1999-2003.
Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as JayKay, lostmind1856, Q, EvanC015, Zumi, and multiple others, amassing over 5k views.
On April 19th, 2022, user JustAnotherUser4635 posted the song to the r/Lostwave subreddit and on WatZatSong. The song was featured in an AMV for the 2008 short film There She Is!. In the comments, they said:
"Hi, I'm a fairly new user here. I recently found out about the LostWave topic and got quite interested. Mainly because I personally have a case of a song that I found a year ago. Around March 2021, I went to a family get-together at my grandmother's house. The quarantine was finally over and the regulations were much more flexible at that time, so we all decided to go eat as we used to do before the appearance of the virus. The fact is that there I found something that filled me with joy and memories. My old laptop. Practically almost intact, in the same personalized case that it had. I had lost it more than 5 years ago, when I was still only 12 years old. I hurriedly turned it on and surprisingly, it still had battery left. I do not know how. Check a couple of things that I had downloaded, since I remembered that I had downloaded a couple of games and animations made in Flash thanks to a tutorial I saw on YouTube. But, among all the games made on the now defunct engine, there were a couple of Amvs. At that time I quite liked them and I even downloaded a couple of these. But among these there was one that caught my attention, mostly because of the song. It was one of There She Is, an old web animation that I loved as a child. I remember that I was one of the few that had a pot back then and that I downloaded it mostly for the song, which since I didn't know the name, I used to play the video to listen to it. Currently, I do not know its name, much less its authors. I like to call it "Nabi's And Doki's Song", because said Amv was focused on them. Does anyone know who could have done it?"[3]
The audio in the AMV was the exact same was the original post, so it’s theorized the post was either a hoax or the AMV creator had gotten the song from TipoDual’s WZS post.
2023[]
On July 7th, 2023, Discord user BLUE discovered a band called Happy Ashtray, they sounded identical to the song and they had a song listed on Last.fm called Show You My Hand, but no audio of the song was available online.[4][5]
On the same day, BLUE contacted band member John Swamy, and he confirmed that the song was by the band, featuring Claire Baldwin as a second vocalist.[6]
Lyrics[]
Help me unravel
I could show you my hand
This is your warning
You might soon understand
All of our worries
They'll be safe in my hand
There's nothing left here
Should we move again
I'll show you my hand
I'll show you my hand
And get dressed in this old illusion
And you'll see that it fits just fine
Temper your wishes for your daily dose
Keep it at a distance away from that line
Every day we should
Learn this again
A token reminder of
Just what we've undone
After your mind's made
Will you call me again?
Deep in your own space
Can I come in again?
I'll show you my hand
I'll show you my hand
Have me surrounded
Let me show you my hand
Enough of this gamble
Let us breathe in the end
You had me grounded
Do you wonder where I am
Of all your indecision
It's your sorry state again
