Школьный бал (Shkol'nyy bal, English: School Prom, also known as the MBO Killer), is an unidentified Russian pop/rock song. It was posted to r/MojBluzhayuschijOgon by Natalia Verich on November 4th, 2024. The song was part over the original tape of the formerly unidentified song My Wandering Fire.
History[]
School Prom was recorded as the first track on the tape that Natalia Verich want to have digitized, before the composition "Prokhozhy" ("Passerby") that she had recorded. As a result, it has already received the unofficial nickname "MWF killer", since according to one of the probable hypotheses, it could have been recorded over the original soundtrack of the song "My Wandering Fire".
Another possible hypothesis is that the studio mixed up the tapes. "Passerby" was added as the second track to the tape of this unknown young man and given to Natalia. The young man, in turn, was added another track of his to the tape with the soundtrack of "My Wandering Fire". The probability of this option, of course, is not so high - but it exists. And there is a chance that if the stars align - we will find this artist, he will have the tape - then the original MBO may be on it.
Also, the track is posted in two versions. The first is the original rip with a frequency of 48000 Hz. The second fixed is a version slowed down to 44100 Hz, since "Passerby" then played faster on the digitization from the DAT cassette than the version that Natalia also gave us on a flash drive.
The tracks on this cassette were digitized at the same speed. "Passerby" ended up being faster by ~10% than the version from Natalia's flash drive, and the version that is already online.
The "School Prom" version sounds more natural at a speed of 48000.
That is, these 2 tracks were recorded at different speeds and at very different times, and even probably in different places. And it is unlikely that the erasure occurred right at the time of recording "Passerby". That is, most likely, this is definitely not a jamb of the sound engineer back then in 2000.
