The song was first posted to WatZatSong on May 26th, 2010, by user Vero. They didn’t provide any information about the song, nor a longer snippet, and the snippet had several skips through it.[1]
On October 27th, 2011, user SergiodeClay posted another snippet of the song with. They also didn’t provide any information about the song, nor a longer snippet,[2]
2022
On February 7th, Jamie Russell-White posted the song to YouTube. This recording was sent to him by SergiodeClay, though Jamie did not clarify this at the time, only that it was recorded off of a defunct Argentine radio station.[3]
On February 25th, someone asked SergiodeClay if he had a longer snippet, but he said he didn’t have one. It’s possible he did have one, but didn’t know that WatZatSong automatically cropped samples to 30 seconds.
2024
In 2024, user Unexpectedlyvile reposted the song to the r/Lostwave subreddit. They noticed that there was a radio announcer and/or radio watermark early on in the song, and users theorize it’s saying Mendes/Mendel.
Jamie commented on the post, saying the song was sent to them by SergiodeClay. He said SergiodeClay recorded it sometime after 1995, but he wasn’t sure about the specific timeframe.
2025
On June 7th, Jamie replied to a comment on the post, saying the song was sent to him on January 27th, 2022. He also said the metadata of the file didn’t provide any additional info.
Sometime around June 11th, SergiodeClay said the song was recorded sometime between 1998-2003. He still didn’t say anything about a longer snippet. Only a week later, user Q reuploaded the song and a channel was made on the FMM Discord Server.
On June 21st, Reddit user Fandroidfan2002 discovered a copyright registry for a song titled Say that you Love Me written by Gina G. and Gregory Clive Young. He contacted the writers, and Gina responded a day later, saying they wrote the song, but she didn’t remember the singer.[4]
On June 23rd, Gina confirmed the song was recorded in either 1998 or 1999. She also said she didn’t know how the song ended up on the radio, as it was an unreleased demo. Gregory hasn’t responded to any messages as of now.
