Pleasure Heist (formerly known as ”Synth Solo”) is a formerly unidentified experimental electro synth-pop song by Californian musician Mark Lane, released in 1986 as a single and in 1987 on the album Male Nymph.
Search History
On April 8th, 2023, user Most Mysterious 90s posted the song to YouTube. He recorded the eight second snippet off of Portland based community radio station KBOO, in 1993.
Multiple users in the comments started theorizing that the song was AI generated, due to how unusual it sounded. But other users in the comments noted how unlikely that would be, due to the OP posting several songs that were real. The OP explained why the snippets he recorded where so short, saying in his channel’s bio:
“In the first half of the 90s, I used to record tapes from the radio which consisted of mostly incomplete songs, usually very short snippets. I think the idea was to make a sort of weird radio sound-collage, and to create an audio snapshot of what was on the radio at the time, and to fit hundreds of songs onto a 60- or 90-minute tape.”
On June 26th, 2025, the song was identified by Discord user Mystic65 as Pleasure Heist by Mark Lane after they Audiotagged it, and the song showed up.
On July 8th, 2025, a higher quality rip of the song was made by the OP himself after purchasing the single of the song and ripping the song from it.
Former Theories
It was theorized that the sample does not come from a song. Instead, it was posited to be the recording/live footage of a DJ casually playing with their equipment for fun, without intention to make a good-sounding song. The possibility of it being a radio interlude, which is a transition between two songs, was brought up by some. That was debunked when the song became solved.
