Piece Of Mind is a previously unidentified song missatributed to The Beatles under the title Peace Of Mind/The Candle Burns. It was solved once user "paul62" had posted on SoundCloud[1] the original radio recording of Piece Of Mind with voices from David Hunter.

Original Upload[]

The song was first uploaded online to the HerbBlake channel under the simple title "Peace Of Mind".[2] No extra information was attached except the description of "1967 oyttake" which was supposed to say "1967 outtake". HerbBlake[3] is Randwolf's alternative account known for uploading Beatles outfakes in the past, including We'll Watch The World As It Happily Ends and Relax In Red which he partially solved.

Lyrics[]

I'm looking at the candle, burns a flame to meet the sky
I leave the candle laughing, I turn my face to cry
A safety pin returns my smile, I nod a brief hello
While you are building molecules with your garden hoe

Why can't this last forever—these things repressed inside?
One feels it almost instantly unless one of us died
It's over, it's done, never need it again
Just please, please, please, oh, don't keep mе from begin

I need to hear the colors rеd and blue and whispered word
To fly all day and sing in tune and not hear what I'd heard
To see you all around me and to take you by the hand
And lead you to a brand new world that lately has been banned

We'll build things never built before, we'll do things never done
And just before it's over, it's really just begun

Comment From David Hunter[]

"My voice sounded so weird that night. I was at the control console ready to roll our home made "Beatle Bootleg" recorded on Walton Jones's Wollensak stereo tape recorder at his apartment earlier that day. I had the tape cued up on one of our studio Ampexes and “Come Together” on the turntable for my seque as the "Piece of Mind" tape finished. Apple Records had just released the album after releasing Come Together as a Single some weeks before. But I almost always only played Albums. We had little idea that this night would survive on something called “the internet” so many decades later. Thanks for doing your best to recover it. The Orange Freak, David Hunter, WUSF FM, The Underground Railroad"
