Our Man In Havana: Suite From The Opera (formerly known as "1975 Intense Instrumental") is a formerly unidentified symphonic song created and released by late British composer Malcolm Williamson at an unknown date (presumably ~1975).
The song was based off of Graham Greene's 1958 novel, Our Man In Havana and the opera was played and premiered on July 2nd, 1963 at Sadler's Well Theatre in London, United Kingdom.
Search History
On April 9th, 2022, WatZatSong user DH56 uploaded a snippet to the website, labelling it as classical while also mentioning that it was recorded sometime in 1975 or before, but didn’t provide any information about where it came from.[1]
On June 7th, 2024, the same user shared an extended version of the snippet to Vocaroo, with the new snippet lasting for around three minutes in total.[2]They still didn’t provide any information about where it came from.
On June 11th, 2024, user Ziro reposted the song to YouTube.[3] A day later, the OP posted a comment of an update, saying the song was solved as "Our Man In Havana" by Malcolm Williamson. The song used was also performed in a prom by the BBC Symphony Orchestra on September 11th, 1976.[4][5]
A WatZatSong user, kazimir, was later able to find some recordings of the 1976 proms in two YouTube playlists, with one of the recordings having a very similar but different match to the original snippet.[6] This recording was released in 2009.
On August 1st, 2024, the song was fully identified by WZS user Atom_Baum as Our Man In Havana: Suite From The Opera by Malcolm Williamson after they found an upload of the full performance on Archive.org.
