Nobody Knows

Not to be confused with the video game's name "Popscene" and user POPscene.

"Nobody Knows" is a formerly unidentified trip-hop song by Manchester-based group Diceman. Released around 1999–2000, the track remained unknown to the public for years until it resurfaced in the files of Popscene, a 2004 music simulation game.

Search History

2021 - Original YouTube Upload

January 2021: YouTube user mrdomino100 uploaded a 1:30 sample of the song, found by a friend digging through Popscene's game files. The audio was low quality, upscaled from the game.

Aside from the lyrics listed on a random website with the same artist and title, no other information could be found.

Attempts to contact the game developer revealed that the song had likely come from a public domain source.

They couldn't find any information regarding about the song online except for the lyrics being found in a lyrics website that listed the same artist and the title as the song in the gamefiles. They also stated that no videos about the song existed apart from an album cover^[1] that was unlikely to be the actual album cover.

Their friend has managed to contact a developer of the game they found the song from and they unfortunately didn't remember much about the song apart from the fact that the song was available in public domain when the song was placed into the game.

June 2024 - DanielFript + Full Song Discovery

YouTuber DanielFript uploaded a full version of the track, helping it gain attention with over 8,000 views. Days later, they discovered it listed on a compilation CD titled The Big Five-0: Best Music of 1999 Part 1, which confirmed the artist as Diceman.

April 2025 - Full Confirmation + Info From Solver

The song was fully solved by Interstellar medium, who uploaded a high-quality version ripped from a promotional CD included with a Casio WMP-1 MP3 watch purchased in 2000. The CD, released by the now-defunct UK platform Peoplesound, contained six tracks, including Nobody Knows.

They had stored the songs on the watch’s 32MB memory and attempted to research the band years later, but found little. A photo of the band, recovered from a 2004 Wayback Machine archive, and some hints suggested Diceman was likely based in Manchester.

Years later, they noticed that the song started to pop up more across the internet. The song was discovered in the gamefiles from a 2004 game "Popscene". They decided to rip the song from the CD that they still had and later uploaded the six songs onto YouTube.
