Napster (formerly Roxio) is a USA company that provides a former P2P file sharing application (1999 - 2002) & a music distribution service (2003~), both have been revolutionizing music distribution on the Internet.

On here, we will explain about the former.

History[]

The platform of Napster as a flie sharing application was first launched on June 1st, 1999, by founder Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker. The concept itself was come out after Shawn heard a grudge at existing music file search services from another student while he's a part of in Northeastern University, USA. The service name was taken from Shawn's handle name.

TBA

In July 2001, the service was eventually shut down by court order. In 2002, Napster announced it had filed for bankruptcy and sold its assets to a third party, ultimately acquired by Roxio. Later, alternative services such as Limewire emerged, but they too were shut down following court orders.

Unknown Songs via Napster[]

During the zenith of Napster, most misattributed songs, from between the 1990s and 2000s, originated in this service. This situation occasionally happened due to distribution of mis-tagged MP3 files uploaded by unintended users or people who were aware the tagged artists weren't original, either way caused copyright infringements. For preventing more songs from such damages, Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) filed the suit for Napster at the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

Parody/Comedy songs mostly originating in Napster are sometimes collectively referred to as "Napster Comedy". The list below is separated into two categories, Napster Comedy and Other Songs, as there are too many reported parody/comedy songs than the regular ones like "Hate" (formerly known as "I Don’t Want To Live In Your World") and "Union" (formerly known as "Union"). The Napster Comedy series have its own Fandom wiki site called "Napster Comedy Wiki" (see also External Links below).
