On June 10th, 2023, user Kenny Cathead posted a one hour and 25 minute video titled “Unknown” to YouTube. It featured many snippets recorded off of the radio in the 1980s. This song played at eighteen minutes and forty-seven seconds into the video.
On July 18th, 2023, Kenny reposted the song to his WatZatSong account NY80sTapes, saying in the post's description:
"Reggae; beginning of some track with organ, in minor key. Just 13 seconds is all I have".
On November 24th, 2023, on the FMM Discord thread for the songs he posted, Kenny said that he wasn’t the person who recorded the tapes, but instead a friend who was trying to make a sound collage, but he recorded a few things.
On March 30th, 2024, YouTube user No Background reuploaded the snippet to his channel, saying that it was probably 80s. It was recorded off of a New York or New Jersey based radio station.
On October 4th, 2024, Max Many Mix identified the song as "Middle Class" by The Uptown Rulers, presumably after finding it in a WFMU playlist.
