On an unknown date (confirmed to be "more than 10 years ago"), a Ukrainian man by the name of "Arthur Bogushev" recorded a song on his MP3 player off of a Ukrainian radio station, without the title nor the artist stored in the name.
On April 6th, 2017, Arthur decided to dispose of the aforementioned MP3 player, but still wanted to preserve some songs and playlists. This song caught his attention, and thus he decided to upload it to Soundcloud to see if anyone could identify it, under the title. "1".
Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by multiple users, such as Lost Music: Cold Case, Q, MistaEgg, Zumi, Bonemach1ne, Revolutionary_War, LostwaveFinder, Ofrix, and multiple others, amassing over 100k views.
Eventually, this caught the attention of user Arizona Ranger, who proceeded to ask where and when he recorded the song, to which Arthur responded with the aforementioned. Eventually many in the Lostwave community started to team up to search for the identity of the song.
On January 6th, 2024, a channel for the song was made in the FMM Discord server after winning a channel poll, along with Back To Bed, I Was A Fool In Love, Tension Rising In The Air, and World Was So Easy. This song being put in the "Other Unknown Songs (1)" category.
On February 5th, 2024, user ShaiiValley posted a video to YouTube about "obscure internet anomalies", featuring this song. Two weeks later, Reddit user TrippyDrew identified the song as Man On A Hill by The Defended after searching YouTube for "The man on the hill before:2013" and discovering a live performance of the song.[1]
Shortly after, the full, high quality version of the song was posted in the thread by user NoButterscotch3385, after Discord user lexal8054 found it on an indie music website called "indiemusicpeople.com".
Lyrics
[Intro]
One, two, three, four
[Verse 1]
There's a man who stands upon a hill
Looking down to the people he has killed
And he done them one by one
[Verse 2]
There's a man, who stands above a grave
Looking down to a woman he couldn't save
And his life's been put on hold
[Chorus]
And he will make or break your day
Turn 'round and look the other way
You gotta listen to what he says
And he will send you up or down
Don't matter if your break your neck or drown
You gotta listen to what he says
[Post-chorus]
Do roo do, do roo do do do roo do
Do roo do, do roo do do do roo do
Do roo do, do do do do
[Verse 3]
There's a man who lost what he once loved
Lookin sad cause he knows the time has come
To take his pain away
[Verse 4]
He writes a note and he makes his way upstairs
It won't be long til he don't have to care
Til he meets our man on a hill
[Chorus]
And he will make or break your day
Turn round and look the other way
You gotta listen to what he says
And he will send you up or down
Don't matter if your break your neck or drown
You gotta listen to what he says
[Post-chorus]
Do roo do, do roo do do do roo do
Do roo do, do roo do do do roo do
Do roo do, do do do do
[Bridge]
There's a man who lost what he once loved
Lookin sad cause he knows the time has come
To take his pain away
He writes a note and he makes his way upstairs
It won't be long til he don't have to care
Til he meets our man on a hill
[Chorus]
And he will make or break your day
Turn round and look the other way
You gotta listen to what he says
And he will send you up or down
Don't matter if your break your neck or drown
You gotta listen to what he says
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
And he will make or break your day
Turn round and look the other way
You gotta listen to what he says
And he will send you up or down
Don't matter if your break your neck or drown
