Laos Hau Nia Hakarak (English: My Desire/My Wish) is an unidentified glam rock/dangdut song in Tetum language. The song is a cover of La'os Hau Nia Hakarak by Lili Ribeiro.

Search History[]

The song was discovered by "Slightly Improved Sound Quality," who uploaded it to YouTube on September 27th, 2020. The song was found by using Soulseek, a peer-to-peer file-sharing application.

Commenters on the video mistakenly thought that the song's language is Tagalog, and that it was probably recorded in East Timor.

Since its upload, the language of this song has been debated. It was agreed that it was a language spoken in some Southeast Asian country like the Philippines or East Timor, but no conclusion was drawn.

Reddit user u/south_pole_ball (the one who found the complete version of Ulterior Motives) contacted two professors from East Timor who confirmed the singer's language to be Tetum.

The lyrics and the language share some words with Filipino due to being in the same language family and borrowing words from Portuguese and Spanish respectively, two closely related Romance languages.
