Johnny Quest (formerly known as Johnny Oh Johnny) is a formerly unidentified garage rock song by Michigan based band The Lime Giants, released in 1989 on the album At Home With The Lime Giants.

Search History[]

The song was first posted onto WatZatSong on May 31st, 2010, by user philabramoff. They said that the song was recorded onto a cassette tape off of WDBM in the late 1980s.

On August 11th, 2024, the OP came back and posted the nearly full version of the song to Vocaroo after users MistaEgg and FatBird asked them to post a longer snippet.

On the comments of Mike Worst’s reupload of the song, users Kurt Saventozone and Trapezoidiqal Q theorized the song was about the show Johnny Quest.

Later that day, Mike Worst identified the song as Johnny Quest by The Lime Giants after he searched for songs with the title Johnny Quest and found an upload of it on bassist’s YouTube channel.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Johnny, oh Johnny
Why did they lay you to rest
When everyone I've ever known
Agrees you were the best

[Verse 2]
In an animated wasteland
Ruled by G.I. Joe
Johnny, oh Johnny
We really miss your show

[Chorus]
Giant spiders and evil frog men
They must be destroyed
Race Bannon was a modern D'Artagnan
Our hearts were stolen by a Hindu boy

[Verse 3]
Johnny, oh Johnny
You were the envy of all our youth
You had no need for school, you played by different rules
In your quest for adventure and truth

[Verse 4]
I know I always thought of you
As America's little brother
But time after time come one question in mind
Where the hell was your mother?
Break

[Verse 2]
In an animated wasteland
Ruled by G.I. Joe
Johnny, oh Johnny
We really miss your show

[Chorus]
Giant spiders and evil frog men
They must be destroyed
Race Bannon was a modern D'Artagnan
Our hearts were stolen by a Hindu boy

[Verse 1]
Johnny, oh Johnny
Why did they lay you to rest
When everyone I've ever known
Agrees you were the best

The Lime Giants[]

The band consisted of Mark Deming (vocals), Mark Nowlin (bass), Chris Cline (guitar), and Pat Bills (percussion and drums).

In 1987, they made a demo tape called The Green Demo Tape, which band member Mark Nowlin posted to YouTube in 2015.

Around 1988-1989, they recorded the song Down In The Boneyard, but never released it.

In 1989, they released their first and only album, At Home With The Lime Giants, which included this song.

Shortly after, they disbanded.
