Jimmy Takes A Ride is an unidentified hard rock/rock 'n' roll song, taken from the fake Paul McCartney bootleg album Wings - Wild Wonders.

Search History

Sometime around 1987, bootleggers circulated the song on audio tapes, mislabeling it as a Paul McCartney & Wings studio outtake.[1]This song is the ninth track on the tape.

This lead to the song being featured in two separate newsletters devoted to unofficial Beatles recordings, Scott Belmerfeatured it in 1987, and L.R.E. King subsequently included it in another newsletter in 1989 as a direct response to Scott Belmer's review of the song.

The song's earliest known online mention dates to sometime around 1998 when user Randwolf included it on his now-defunct website, which aimed at cataloging recordings of The Beatles.[2]

On July 13th, 2018, user BeatlesBootlegs9 posted the song to YouTube, along with all the other songs on the tape. The tape said the song was from 1978. The entire track is heavily distorted, making it practically impossible to discern most of the lyrics.

The artists behind the four identified songs from the tape are all from Long Island, New York. And according to one of them, their songs were submitted to various radio contests in the late '70s, such as WBAB 102.3's Homegrown Hour show and WALK's radio show's, which was dedicated to showcasing local talent. These shows are likely the source from which bootleggers stole the song.

On March 27, 2024, Q reposted Jimmy Takes A Ride to her YouTube channel.

Former Leads

A previous lead for the song was Steven Sollog & Gary Pagano - Ginny, Take A Ride (1979), they were both in a band called The Sheiks. Additionally, an old newspaper article was found listing the band alongside Neal Ferraro & Len Rothberg for a battle-of-the-bands type event. All of their available music was in a completely different style and genre and someone connected to The Sheiks said "it probably wasn't them."

On December 31st 2024, the lead 'John David Simoes & Wayne Gerard Hartmann - Take A Ride (1981)' was debunked as a friend stated: "He said that recording isn't his."

Presumed Lyrics

Jimmy's got some poor friends
Now she's got some more friends
Jimmy's now assuming, getting little high
No one stops her future as she takes to the sky
There's no scary menace, summer's on their way
Now give it up for just my little lady

Jimmy's woes are so good
I don't play it high, drunk
Jimmy's never sexy to another guy
No one's anchored to me, but can I get a ride
You probably tell my lady, opened yo' mind
Don't know where she's going, but I don't know where to hide

Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride

Jimmy's good at drivin'
Ah, she didn't have to ride in
Grab your little brother and I believe
Zip up your jacket, and come out with me
Jimmy's gotta stop em'
Ring the phone, man
Don't know where she's going, but we don't need a ride

Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride

[Instrumental Break]

Grab your little brother and I believe
Zip up your jacket, and come out with me
Jimmy's gotta stop em'
Ring the phone, man
Don't know where she's going, but we don't, don't, don't get a ride

Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride, take a ride
Jimmy, take a ride
