The song was posted to WatZatSong on April 8th, 2024, by user Pace, who stated that this song was recorded on a cassette tape purchased at a thrift store. It is to be noted this information is likely false due to this song being likely a hoax, since their other songs (such as Free For All) were hoaxes.

On September 7th, 2024, WatZatSong user ¿ identified the song as "Independence Day" by The Painted Word. They gave no information about the song itself, just a proposal.

On July 9th, 2025, Discord user occupiedmind provided a full, high-quality rip of this song from the 7" single. They'd then uploaded the 7" to their channel.

Lyrics

I saw the pleasure, leave your face
It didn't seem to matter then
It left a shadow in its place
I guess it doesn't matter now

Was I wrong in thinkin'
I was right to say
What was on my mind, because of how it made things change

It doesn't have to be this way
And you don't have to do that
And if they take everything you have away
Call it independence day

The rush of life and the road you need to burn
Always seem to let me down
The letterbox is always still
And this could be an unknown town

Was I right of thinkin'
I was wrong to stay
In a place where no one ever really knew my name

It doesn't have to be this way
And you don't have to do that
And if they take everything you have away
Call it independence day (x3)
