I See Ghosts is a formerly unidentified deathrock/post-punk song by New Jersey-based band Network, recorded around 1982.

Search History[]

2010s[]

The song was first posted to the New Wave Outpost forums by user Guglielm on August 23rd, 2012 along with multiple other unknown songs. He didn’t provide any information about the songs.

On April 13th, 2013, Guglielm commented on a WFMU.org page for a playlist made by radio DJ Terre T. He said all of the songs were recorded off of WFMU "ages ago".[1]

A week later, Guglielm commented on a WFMU playlist made by DJ Bob Brainen, specifying that the songs were recorded 20-30 years prior, specifically between 1981-1984 or 1991-1993, off of WFMU.[2]

Guglielm reposted the song to WatZatSong on September 7th, 2014, but the post was deleted. He said the song was tagged as “Network - I See Ghosts”.

2020s[]

On March 26th, 2023, Guglielm confirmed that he digitized all of his cassette tapes with the songs on them in the early 1990s, and no longer had any of them anymore.[3]

Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as VisualConfusion, MistaEgg, S2h, AlianTheObscure, and multiple others, amassing over 2k views.

On August 4th, 2024, Discord user rocketballboi discovered that a band called Network played on WFMU. User Marktrail found a broadcast including them on a 2006 WFMU page, and a song called "Soldier of Fortune" was found credited to them, which had a very similar style.

On April 2nd, 2025, user the song was fully identified as I See Ghosts by Network after Richard Zoppo, someone who attended one of their shows mentioned the song on a Dirt Club Facebook post. An FMM user replied to the message and he confirmed that the song was indeed by them.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Deep into the night
I see the hollow of his voice across the room
All across the wall
I see a dancing shadow howling at the moon

[Pre-Chorus]
Skeletons inside my closet stab me in the face
Sometimes when I’m alone
And sometimes in a public place

[Chorus]
Oh, ghosts
I see ghosts

[Verse 2]
Lying on my pillow
Is a vision that I do not understand
Oh, sometimes it’s a hero
And other times, it’s just a man

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, skeletons inside my closet stab me in the face
Sometimes when I’m alone
And sometimes in a public place

[Bridge]
Oh, more ghosts
Oh, ghosts are all around
I see ghosts
Oh, but no one can be found
Oh, they won’t let me live
’Til I give all I can give

[Chorus]
To the ghosts

[Verse 3]
A case full of resentments I convince myself that I deserve to own
A shelf full of regrets
For the times I never called you on the phone

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, carrying on my shoulders
The burdens of the past
Some day I will be free of them
And they'll be going at last

[Bridge]
Oh, more ghosts
Oh, ghosts are in my brain
I see ghosts
And they’re driving me insane
Oh, they won’t let me live
’Til I give all I can give to the ghosts

[Chorus]
To the ghosts

[Guitar Solo]

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, more ghosts
Ooh, ghosts are all around
I see ghosts
But no one can be found
Everyday I walk a line, but it’s all inside my mind
Oh, ghosts, oh, ghosts are in my brain
I see ghosts
Oh, they're driving me insane
Oh, they won’t let me live
’Til I give all I can give

[Chorus]
To the ghosts
To the ghosts
Oh, to the ghosts

[Outro]
Ooh, oh I see ghosts
Ooh, oh I see ghosts
Oh, I see ghosts, ooh
Oh, I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts
I see ghosts?
I see ghosts...

Network (band)[]

Network was a New Jersey-based post-punk band presumably active between 1980-1982.

Only two of the members are known, Sharon Stone (vocals, guitar) and the late Mark Harris (guitar).

In 1980, they released the cassette Soldier of Fortune.

In 1982, they released another cassette, Network Tunes: Vol 1, likely featuring I See Ghosts.
