"Home in the Rain" (formerly known as ”Don't Go on the Street”) formerly unidentified punk rock song by New York based band Modern Clix, released in 1983 on the EP What’s In Store.

Search History[]

The song was first posted to the New Wave Outpost forums by user Guglielm on August 23rd, 2012 along with multiple other unknown songs. He didn’t provide any information about the songs.

On April 20th, 2013, Guglielm commented on the WFMU.org page for a playlist made by user Bob Brainen, saying the songs were recorded sometime between 1981-1984 or 1991-1993 off of WFMU.

The song was reuploaded to WatZatSong[1] by Guglielm himself on November 7th, 2016. It was later uploaded to YouTube[2] by "Acu- Rite" on October 30th, 2021. It was tagged as Modern Clocks - Don’t Go On The Street.

One WatZatSong user suggested that it was a riot grrrl band from the late 1980s or 1990s. The user listened to the bands on the Wikipedia list of Riot Grrrl bands, but didn't find anything relating to the song. The Runaways and L7 were also considered possible leads, but nothing came of them.

On March 26th, 2023, Guglielm confirmed that he digitized all of his cassette tapes with the songs on them in the early 90s, and no longer had any of them anymore.

On August 31st, 2023, Discord user Creaking Part brought up the possibility of the song being Home In The Rain by Modern Clix, but then doubted it due to their other songs being more reggae inspired.

On April 26th, 2024, it was identified by Creaking Part as Home in the Rain by Modern Clix after a Soulseek user came online with the song, to which Creaking Part downloaded and confirmed the songs were the same.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Don't go on the street!
Somebody said it's raining!
Who cares about the rain?
Might wash some scum away
Piss runs at the sidewalk
They're pissing on my door!
And shooting in the stairwell
It's all been done before
There's junkies on the fire escape
Hey, don't come in here!
There's nothing left to steal
You got it all before
A friend was robbed three times last week
They stole his underwear!
This shit goes on and on
Until you just don't care!

[Chorus]
Accosted by a band of
Spanish-speaking gentlemen
Don't think they were too cool
On what I said that they could do

[Verse 2]
So you wanna live in New York City?
Welcome to the lower east side!
The only place we can afford
Without a bridge or tunnel ride!
Hey mom and dad, I found a place
It's down East 3rd and D
It overlooks the vacant lot
A studio for 450
Don't tell me about the poor
I only live here
It's a suburban-living slum lord
Who makes a bitch for me
You know about the south Bronx
We've got the best things too
Burned out buildings, vacant lots
And coke and smokin' junk to do

[Chorus]
Don't know if you should run
If they say they have a gun
Your money or your life
Is it a phony or a knife?

[Bridge]
Don't go on the street!
Somebody said it's raining!
Don't go on the street!
Somebody said it's raining!
Don't go on the street!
Somebody said it's raining!
Don't go on the street!
Somebody said it's raining!

[Outro]
Don't go on the street
Somebody said it's raining
Don't go on the street
Somebody said it's raining
