Search History[]
This cover version was first uploaded on April 22nd, 2022, when WatZatSong user DH56 posted a sample of the recording on the website. The initial post included genre tags of "Pop" and "English," along with the simple description "Homburg played on piano."
On May 7th, 2022, user mustafa6691 suggested the original "Homburg" by Procol Harum, but this was quickly rejected by DH56 as not being the sought-after version. During this period, another user, Monkprof, requested a longer sample to aid in the identification process.
In response to this request, DH56 provided additional context and an extended 1:59 sample via Vocaroo. The user revealed that the recording was from Pete Baker's show on Piccadilly Radio, broadcast in July 1976. DH56 also speculated that it might have been a live performance, as Baker occasionally featured solo artists on his night show. [1]
Despite this new information, Monkprof's attempt to identify the piece using Shazam incorrectly matched it to "J.S. Bach: Well-Tempered Clavier."
The search gained wider attention on August 16th, 2024, when Q reuploaded the recording to her channel. Q's video used an image of Saint Michael Church in Homburg, Saarland, Germany as its thumbnail, connecting the song visually to its namesake. As of now, this upload has over 4K views.
During the ongoing search, users discovered an album titled "Instrumentals For Lovers" by an artist named John Vennick, which included a track called "Homburg."
This initially seemed promising, as the album predated the radio broadcast. However, this lead was ultimately disproven when the seller was contacted and confirmed that their track was not the piano cover in question.[2]
