Gustav Mahler Lives In Toronto (formerly known as "Red Light" or "Where Am I") is a formerly unidentified indie rock/post-punk revival song by Nottingham based band Stop Eject, released in 2008 on the EP "Cargo Cult Science".

Search History[]

The song was posted to YouTube on March 23rd, 2023, by user SicksadworldLA. The video was a mixtape of over a dozen songs that were recorded off of El Laboratorio de Relax, a Peruvian radio show run by DJ Relax. The description read:

"Third compilation of recordings of some classics in this segment and some rarities tuned into Radio Doble Nueve."

"I can't identify some tracks, so they remain unknown."

This was the last song in the compilation that was still unknown. The songs in the mix ranged from 2002 to 2008 with the majority coming from the USA or UK, although it was thought to have been recorded as early as 1999.

Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by multiple users, such as MistaEgg, Mike Worst, Zumi, Q, S2h, AlianTheObscure, LostwaveFinder, Murphy, Rocketballboi, and multiple others, amassing over 15k views.

On March 3rd, 2024, a channel for the song was created in the Fond My Mind Discord server after winning a channel poll, along with Fly Away, Thought So At The Time, Uptown People, Just Make It Louder, One More Chance, Somewhere In The Night, Rubia, The Things We Never Do, Jenny, and Take Us To Dreamland.

It was commonly theorized that the band behind this song was a MySpace band and that it was lost in the data loss, due to the time period and Relax commonly playing MySpace bands.

On September 18th, 2025, the song was identified by Discord user weezytweezy as "Gustav Mahler Lives In Toronto" by Stop Eject, after running it through WerZatSong, using fingerprints from the ReverbNation fingerprinting project.

Two days later, the full discography of Stop Eject was shared by cs188, a popular YouTuber. A band member had sent him all of their material in January 2011. This folder contained an album of live performances, including a live version of this song.[1]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
My worst day
Flying into the poets disease and trying to make peace
Their first girl
Sacrificing strength and greed
In an anachronistic World
Their second chance
Crawling around on my hands and knees and trying to smooth out all of the cracks

[Pre-Chorus]
Where am I
Where am I
Where am I

[Chorus]
You can have the stars and mine are the streetlights
You can have the stars and mine are the streetlights

[Verse 2]
My worst day
Sharing all our dreams tonight like discord and harmony
They're first like
I'm moving a rift for a vanishing started mind
Foggy lights
You’re crawling around on your hands and knees and trying to smooth out all of the cracks

[Pre-Chorus]
Where am I
Where am I
Where am I

[Chorus]
You can have the stars and mine are the streetlights
You can have the stars and mine are the streetlights

[Bridge]
Purgatory
Circle, an unborn human eye
My last day
Taking out my dreams tonight and trying to go back

[Pre-Chorus]
Where am I
Where am I

[Chorus]
You can have the stars and mine are the streetlights
You can have the stars and mine are the streetlights
