"Guarantee" (formerly known as "Need A Guarantee Of Love (If It's Me You're Thinking Of)") is a formerly unidentified power pop/hard rock song by the Long Island based band The End. The song has 2 versions, with the earlier one appearing on the Wings - Wild Wonders outfake album.
Search History[]
Sometime around 1987, bootleggers circulated the song on audio tapes, mislabeling it as a Paul McCartney & Wings studio outtake.[1]This song was the seventh track on the tape and the title was labeled as Need A Guarantee Of Love (If It’s Me You’re Thinking Of).
This lead to the song being featured in two separate newsletters devoted to unofficial Beatles recordings, Scott Belmer featured it in 1987, and L.R.E. King subsequently included it in another newsletter in 1989 as a direct response to Scott Belmer's review of the song.
The song's earliest known online mention dates to sometime around 1998 when user Randwolf included it on his now-defunct website, which aimed at cataloging recordings of The Beatles.[2]
On July 13th, 2018, user BeatlesBootlegs9 posted the song to YouTube, along with all the other songs on the tape. The tape said the song was from 1974. Together with Please Come Home, they are one of the few songs on the album where the singer can be heard well.
On December 27th, 2022, user Antonio's Remastered Works uploaded a remaster of the song, aiding in the lyric interpretation.
The artists behind the three other identified songs from the tape were all from Long Island, New York. And according to one of them, their songs were submitted to various radio contests in the late '70s, such as WBAB 102.3's Homegrown Hour show and WALK's radio show's, which was dedicated to showcasing local talent. These shows are likely the source from which bootleggers stole the song.
On February 28th, 2025, user Rebornjar identified the song as Guarantee by The End after Shazamming it and finding it on the band's YouTube channel. This band was also from Long Island.
Lyrics[]
I hear them talking all the time
So I just have to ask myself
Am I just walking on a fine line, girl?
Or are you true to me or someone else?
How can I be rest assured
You're not running 'round
If it's me you say you're thinking of
Feel it's only fair to sign away your heart
I need a guarantee
I need a guarantee
I need a guarantee of love
Friends are calling up to say to me
You're out 'til after three
The thoughts still linger in my mind
So I'm on my way to see a notary
Maybe then I'll feel secure
You're mine legally
Then it's possible for me to say
When you're out alone
That you won't fly away
I need a guarantee
I need a guarantee
I need a guarantee of love
Will a guarantee ensure
You'll all safe and sound?
Won't believe the stories I've been told
For me, your guarantee
Is worth its weight in gold
I need a guarantee
I need a guarantee
I need a guarantee of love
