The song was first posted to WatZatSong on May 1st, 2015 by user TipoDual. He didn’t provide any information about where he got the song from, but he provided the full version.
On December 20th, 2016, TipoDual reposted the song to YouTube. He still didn’t provide any information about any of the songs he posted but gave this one the placeholder name “Good For You”.
2021-2022[]
In 2021, TipoDual came back and said the song originated from a USB flash drive made in August of 2014 of songs that played in a KFC restaurant in Moscow, Russia, the USB included multiple other unidentified songs.
After more of the songs in the playlist were identified, it was discovered that every song in the playlist had been licensed from MP3.com via the site's "Business Music Service" program and were from ~1999-2003.
2024[]
On March 28th,, Discord user Isle7 likely identified the song as Good For You by Erin McCaffrey after he had found an archive of an MP3.com profile for Erin which included a song titled "Good For You", but it cannot played and there aren’t any available copies of the album the song was on.
Another song by her, Sad, Happy, is on YouTube and both singer’s voices sound identical. On the page for it, the song is described as “A strong mid tempo song that describes a man … who only cares about himself”, which matches the style and lyrics of this song.
On July 18th, despite lack of confirmation, TipoDual labeled both the WatZatSong and YouTube post as being identified. Erin has a photography website, and has been contacted by Isle, but hasn’t responded as of now.
2025[]
On May 7th, over a year after the lead was first discovered and a decade after the original post, user Blue Roux posted a Californian demo tape from the 1990s to YouTube, made by artists named Hal Aaron and Erin McCaffrey.
In the comments, user Girlwantsboy brought up the possibility of them being the same Erin who most likely made this song, due to them sounding very similar.
In late May or early June, Isle commented on the video, saying the site ElectricEarl.com had a page on her, which included images of her from a live performance. The site links Erin’s photography website, which means she’s the same person.
