Girl Talk is an AI generated song uploaded by Fit_Dealer5592 on February 18th 2024. As soon as it was posted, there was immediate speculation it was created by AI and that it was a hoax.
The search
On February 18th 2024,[1] Fit_Dealer5592 posted a 12-second snippet of a song labeled Girl Talk to r/lostwave which had apparently been from a CD dated around 2015. Initial comments seemed to be interested in the search and some genuinely suggested similar artists, but some questioned why a song from a CD would be posted as a snippet rather than in full.
While the OP of the post would insist it was legitimate, the consensus among people back then was that the snippet was generated by an AI generator (possibly Riffusion) and the full song simply did not exist. This belief was due to a number of factors.
- That was the only post OP made on the Lostwave subreddit.
- OP had not provided any background information besides stating it's from a CD.
- OP would constantly insist its legitimacy in the replies and denied knowing what AI is.
- The AI Song Generators Suno AI and Riffusion creates very similar sounding songs when prompted.
- Riffusion-generated snippets are exactly 12 seconds long, the same length as the Girl Talk snippet.
OP would later confess privately in a DM to the hoax. [2]
