2000s-2010s

A one minute and two second snippet of the song was first posted to DeDiniDevil in 2002 by Rene M. He said it was recorded off of a radio station in mid 1986. The song was a cover of Eastern Wind by Chris De Burgh.

Between 2008 and 2009, SpiritOfRadio user René R (not to be confused with the OP) uploaded the song to the site two times to try to get it identified, and he was the first person to upload it to YouTube on March 30th, 2015.

2021

Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by multiple users, such as JayKay, LostwaveFinder, Zumi, Q, Saber, Ofrix, Anon0122, AlianTheObscure, Murphy, and multiple others, amassing over 30k views.

On July 1st, 2021, a channel for the song was made on the FMM Discord Server, along with Rene's other unknown songs, Trip To Rio and Poor Christmas.

On October 10th, 2021, Chris de Burgh was contacted regarding the cover. He confirmed that he was unaware of the performer, suggesting the cover was neither officially licensed nor released commercially.

On December 4th, 2021, René M. uploaded a longer snippet of the song to YouTube, accompanied by the full radio track list from the original 1986 broadcast. He noted that the recording likely originated from either NDR 1 in Lower Saxony, Germany, or HR 3 in Hesse, Germany.

2024

On May 26th, 2024, Reddit user Esquar brought up Kai Noll, also known as Morgan, a German musician active during the 1980s, as a potential match for the vocalist due to the striking similarity between his voice and that of the cover’s singer.[1]

On May 29th, 2024, Discord user Rain contacted Noll, who confirmed that he was indeed the performer of the unreleased cover. Noll noted that he did not possess a complete version of the recording, but would search for any surviving copies.[2]

2025

On March 6th, 2025, YouTube user Gksvevo reached out to Kai Noll, who responded that he had been unable to locate the original recording, but was considering producing a re-recording of the cover.[3][4]

On May 29th, 2025, debates within the FMM Discord Server regarding whether the song could be considered fully identified led to the temporary locking of the song’s dedicated channel to prevent further disputes.[citation needed]

On July 28th, 2025, Noll provided an update to Gksvevo, stating that he had located a tape containing the full version of the song, though he described its quality as poor. He indicated that he would need to consult with Chris de Burgh regarding the possibility of releasing it. The FMM Discord channel was subsequently unlocked.[5]

On July 31st, 2025, Noll shared an image of the tape and confirmed plans to create a digital copy of the recording in the coming weeks.[6]

Exactly a month later, on August 31st, 2025, the song was fully identified as Eastern Wind by Kai Noll after he provided the full song to Gksvevo.[7]

Lyrics

All my furrows are filled with corn
Oh there's my woman, she keeps me warm
But there's one thing, love that I fear
That eastern wind is getting near

I got my shotgun beside my bed
This is my country, where I was born and bred
But I be sure, as the willow will grow
Oh then this wind
It was beginning to roar

If they was running away with my life
Eastern wind
Yeah, running away with my life
Eastern wind

There's a woman, she read in the stars
And she sees warlords on the planet of Mars
She said, "Oh boy, you'd better beware"
"That eastern wind, it is getting near"

In my dream, I saw the crowd
As they were burning that palace down
I saw a mad old man, and I ran to the door
Oh, then that wind
It was beginning to roar

If they was running away with my life
Eastern wind
Yeah, running away with my life
Eastern wind

And when they come
They'll find me here
Yes, I will stay
They will not see my fear
And I will fight
Until the very end
Unto this wind
I will never be bent

If they was running away with my life,
Eastern wind
Oh, blowing a hole in my life
Eastern wind
Yeah, taking the plow from my hands
Eastern wind
Oh, taking every bit of my land
Eastern wind, yeah…
