"Depend On It" (formerly known as On The Mountain, On The River) is a formerly unidentified funk song by Michigan based musician Lovell Webb. The song was released in 1993 and is apart of the "I Want Some Singing" album.

Search History[]

The song was originally uploaded onto YouTube by a user named Ibrahim k-h on January 2nd, 2019. They had uploaded a Lyon Funk mix which contained the song at the 15:34 minute mark.

On January 20th, 2025, "Lost Content & Nostalgic Videos" would upload a video which contained various unidentified Lyon Funk songs, including this one.

On February 11th, 2025, popular lostwave uploader Ziro would reupload the song onto her channel, giving the song more attention and hopefully get it solved sooner.

On February 26th, 2025, user Pace had originally found the full song and posted it onto YouTube, tagging it as "Lovell Webb - Depend On It". It was originally considered solved but more evidence was needed and confirmation from someone.

Including the fact that Pace had a history of hoaxes and that there was no other audio of the song online, the song wasn't considered solved but rather needed verification.

But on March 6th, 2025, WatZatSong user named Numerophobe had purchased the album's CD and fully confirmed the song to have been by Lovell Webb.

Lyrics[]

Life is like a distant journey
Hard to make it on your own
Some folks give up on it early
Others take the long way home

On the mountain (on the mountain)
In the river (in the river)
To the farthest place you’ve ever been (farthest place you’ve ever been)
I’ll be right there (right there)
In your future (in your future)
Girl on me you can depend (yes you can depend on it baby)

If you check out your destination
Friendships get so hard to win
And as we’re nearer
The tribulation
I’m willing to remain your friend

On the mountain (on the mountain)
In the river (in the river)
To the farthest place you’ve ever been (farthest place you’ve ever been)
I’ll be right there (right there)
In your future (in your future)
Girl on me you can depend (yes you can depend on it baby)

On the mountain (on the mountain)
In the river (in the river)
To the farthest place you’ve ever been (farthest place you’ve ever been)
I’ll be right there (right there)
In your future (in your future)
Girl on me you can depend, yeah (yes you can depend on it baby)

On the mountain (on the mountain)
In the river (in the river, baby)
To the farthest place you’ve ever been (farthest place you’ve ever been)
I’ll be right there (right there)
In your future (in your future)
Girl on me you can depend, yeah (yes you can depend on it baby)

On the mountain (mountain)
In the river (in the river, baby)
Farthest place you’ve ever been (farthest place you’ve ever been)
Right there (right there)
In your future (in your future)
Girl on me you can depend, yeah (yes you can depend on it baby)

Mountain
In the river, baby
Farthest place you’ve ever been
Right there
In your future
yes you can depend on it baby

Mountain
In the river, baby
