Congliptious (formerly known as "I'd Like to be Your Anything") is a formerly unidentified Indie/Math Rock song by Minneapolis based band John's Black Dirt. The song was released in 1994 as the first track on the album "Perpetual Optimism Is A Force Multiplier".

Search History[]

The song was first posted to the r/TipOfMyTongue subreddit by user Clipperjangle. He said the song was recorded off of a radio station in 1994, but didn’t provide any additional information.

On November 29th, 2020, the song[1] was uploaded by the OP to their YouTube account Most Mysterious 90s and WatZatSong account IceeStare. He recorded the song on a cassette from the KBOO radio station in Portland Oregon during 1994.

The OP gave an explanation for why the snippets he recorded were so short, saying in his channel’s bio:

“In the first half of the 90s, I used to record tapes from the radio which consisted of mostly incomplete songs, usually very short snippets. I think the idea was to make a sort of weird radio sound-collage, and to create an audio snapshot of what was on the radio at the time, and to fit hundreds of songs onto a 60- or 90-minute tape.”

The OP contacted the radio station, but they weren't able to help. They also contacted a DJ who may have played the song, but the DJ did not respond.

Identification[]

The song was identified on January 1st, 2022, after the original video was copyright claimed. It was identified as "Congliptious[2]," a song released by an indie 1990s band called John's Black Dirt[3]. It was the first song on their second album, "Perpetual Optimism is A Force Multiplier." The album was released on May 1st, 1994.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I feel the weight of the world
Coming down on me
I feel tremendous pressure
Coming down

[Chorus 1]
I'd like to throw a rock through a window and not run
I'd like to finish what I've begun
I'd like to keep her with me
I'd like to be your anything

[Verse 2]
I feel your presence like an
Albatross 'round my neck
I feel tremendous pressure
Coming down

[Chorus 2]
I'd like to be your everything I could
I'd like to buy you a million bucks
I'd like to [?] all my things
I'd like to be your anything

[Bridge]
I'd like to be your anything
I'd like to be your anything
I'd like to be your anything
I'd like to be your anything

[Outro]
I'd likе to feel it with you
I'd like to feel it with you
I'd like to be your еverything
I'd like to be your everything

John's Black Dirt[]

John's Black Dirt is an indie rock and math rock trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA), in the same style as Walt Mink.

The band consists of: Brett Mizelle (bass), Mike Huber (drums) and Seth Mindel (guitar and vocals).

The trio put out their first album, seft-titled John's Black Dirt in 1992. The album was released independently.

The band then released their second album Perpetual Optimism Is A Force Multiplier in 1994, where this song was included.

The band released their third album Overempowered And Underinformed in 1995. The album didn't sold many copies.

Their fourth album Horrible Moments of Upness was meant to be released in 1996, but their record label Grass Records abruptly dropped the band, which led to them disbanding.

The band reunited in 2024, fully released their Horrible Moments Of Upness album and their other albums on Bandcamp.

The trio is still together playing in small gigs in Minnesota.
