Search History[]
On July 23rd, 2020, a user named Smokin uploaded the song to WatZatSong and posted the full sample in the comments. They said they recorded the song off of their college radio station, KMSU, in March of 1993, but the song's title and artist were never announced.
On November 23rd, 2020, exactly four months after the original post, the song received a special search channel on the Fond My Mind Discord Server. Theories were made and a lyric attempt, and many believed that the song title would be "The Roots" or "Against The Roots", as it appeared prominently in the chorus.
On December 27th, 2020, Discord user marktrail brought up the possibility of the song being "Common Hound" by The Blind Venetians[citation needed]. He also linked a 1994 live set by them, and while "Common Hound" wasn't included, the band sounded nearly identical, so he ordered the CD.[citation needed]
On January 9th, 2021, the CD arrived, and the song was fully identified as Common Hound by The Blind Venetians. The entire album was ripped and uploaded to YouTube, and the official lyrics for each song were also shared.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
I understand your negativity
My sensitivity makes you blush
I guess you can see how hard it can be
If you never admit you were in love
[Chorus]
We used to sit on the curb in front of my house
'Til the street lights went on
Your neighbours seen me throwing rocks
At the window of your room
A walk down my street
Could never end before midnight
I see your bleached-blonde hair
Looks black up against the roots
[Refrain]
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
[Verse 2]
Called up Billy just to see what he's up to
He seemed too busy, too important to talk to
Heard he turned into a reborn Christian
Just sits at home and bitches about what's he's missing
He nevеr gets out, he just sits on the couch
Flippin' through thе soaps
He says he doesn't need to drink and he doesn't need to smoke
He just sits home and hopes
[Chorus]
We used to sit on the curb in front of my house
'Til the street lights went on
Your neighbours seen me throwing rocks
At the window of your room
A walk down my street
Could never end before midnight
I see your bleached-blonde hair
Looks black up against the roots
[Refrain]
No no no no no
No no no no no
[Bridge]
Common hound, just to calm you down
You're a common hound, just to calm you down
Who says that love is the end?
[Verse 3]
You said you're alone and there's nobody home
So we don't have to talk
You're a common hound, just to calm you down
I'd take you for a walk
Names in chalk all over the sidewalk
Faded out designs that never made it out of young minds
Someone screams out a line and did you read my mind
'Cause you kissed me just in time
[Chorus]
We used to sit on the curb in front of my house
'Til the street lights went on
Your neighbours seen me throwing rocks
At the window of your room
A walk down my street
Could never end before midnight
I see your bleached-blonde hair
Looks black up against the roots
[Refrain]
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no
No, no

The Blind Venetians[]
The Blind Venetians were a American alternative rock band formed around 1988, originally consisting of 5 members:
- Matt Suhar (vocals)
- Cyril Wochok (guitar, vocals)
- Todd Allison (guitar, vocals)
- John Orbit (bass, vocals)
- Jym Madla (drums)
Sometime between 1988-1991, Todd Allison temporarily left the band.
In 1991, they released their first album, "Turn Your Head And Cough", which was available on both cassette and CD, features Matt Sjezda on guitar and vocals, and contains this song and thirteen others:
- Stand Up
- Canister
- Slave
- Gout
- Ballad Of The Bigot
- Bop!
- Shirley Divine
- The Girl Was Never Mind
- Suzi Is A Whore
- Hair & Murder
- The Nation's Tired
- All She Counts
- The Last Song
In 1994, they released their second and final album "The Wreck Of The Lolly Wilson", this time available only on CD. It contained the following:
- Rich From Attention
- Pretty Soon
- Dominion
- Stars & Aeroplanes
- When It Kicked In
- Ringmaster (with backing vocals from Brian Shallcross and Neal Jensen)
- Useless Grinding
- Bound To Happen
- Playing The Same Game
- Matches (with acoustic guitar from Todd Allison)
After this, they played a few live performances, then parted ways.
Matt Suhar then began to start a small career as a music writer and in 2004, and he launched a now defunct website called tantrummanagement.com, which acted as a hub for local Chicago bands to post their music. In 2013, he passed away in an accident where he "jumped from a moving cab"[1] and suffered severe head trauma.
Information about the other members is unknown, but it is likely that they have nothing to do with music anymore and are living a normal life.
