On June 10th, 2023, user Kenny Cathead posted a one hour and 25 minute video titled “Unknown” to YouTube. It featured many snippets recorded off of the radio in the 1980s.
On June 17th, 2023, Kenny reposted the song to his WatZatSong account NY80sTapes. It was recorded off of a radio station in New York or New Jersey around 1981. Kenny said he didn’t know what instrument was in the song.
On November 5th, 2023, WZS user Tyx asked Kenny if he remembered what song played before the snippet. He recalls it being Asteriod Joiroid by Amber Route, which was released in 1980.[1]
On November 24th, 2023, on the FMM Discord thread for the songs he posted, Kenny said that he wasn’t the person who recorded the tapes, but instead a friend who was trying to make a sound collage, but he recorded a few things.[2]
Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as VisualConfusion, Q, AlianTheObscure, and multiple others, amassing over 1k views.
