Carnival (formerly known as "Take This Chance") is a formerly unidentified indie rock song recorded and released by the Dublin-based band The Slowest Clock, which was released as the first track on their 1989 album titled "2-Car Garage".

Search History[]

It was first posted to the New Wave Outpost forums’ song identification board on February 20th, 2005, by user Obscure80s. They said the song was recorded off of a radio station in Baltimore from 1985-1991 along with 5-6 other songs. They didn’t provide any audio, but they wrote down the lyrics to 2 other songs.

Later on, the song was posted to SpiritOfRadio on June 11th, 2020 by another user named "Jay", claiming that it had been recorded off either radio station "WHFS" or "WCVT" (Towson University) around 1985 to 1991 in the Baltimore, DC area. Meaning that Obscure80s and Jay are likely the same person.

Later on September 22nd, 2021, Jay had posted the full (but lower quality) version of the song onto SpiritOfRadio.

On March 29th, 2024, an anonymous listener of the "WCTV" Facebook group asked Skizz Cyzyk to post four videos of both Shakin' and Take This Chance snippets with phone quality.

On March 20th, 2025, Discord user "evinary" would manage to identify the song as "Carnival" by the Irish-band, "The Slowest Clock". They found the song after searching around for obscure music, using the key term "strawberry '1989' indie rock -topic".

The Slowest Clock[]

The Slowest Clock is an alternative rock band from Dublin, Ireland. They formed in 1986.

The band consisted of: Frank Pryce (vocals), Gerry Fahy (guitar), Brian Neavyn (bass) and Dave Burke (drums).

The band started with another drummer Pete Kinsella, but Pete left the band in 1987 and was replaced by Dave.

The band put out their first single Clarke & Jones in 1987 with two songs:

Still in 1987, they collabed with another Irish band The Music Bizz and released the single Clean Up Time / Looking-Up

In 1989, the band put out the EP 2-Car Garage, which features this song, and three others:

Still in 1989, the band put out their second EP No Hand Signals with four songs:

In 1995, the band put out their only album Life Still, featuring songs from previous releases and new songs. Here is a song from the album.

In 2014, the band released their other album Smile Futurismo! All I Heard Was Purple. Some of the songs featured on this album were intended for a debut album, but were subsequently lost, and then later found after a decade, and released here for the first time.

Their 1994 album, Life Still, was from another recording session entirely. The band ran out of funds and interest, and broke up prior to that release.

The band reunited some years ago and are still active today.
