The song was first posted to Hearthis.at on October 21st, 2019, by user eightiesDJarchives. It was featured in a Beau Thompson DJ mix that played at Badlands, a gay bar in San Francisco, in 1984.
On November 9th, 2019, user trackidhelp posted the song by itself to SoundCloud under the name “BT20 (from dj mix 1984)”.
On March 11th, 2022, the song was reposted to WatZatSong by user Musicaloca. They posted the full song to Vocaroo too. They didn’t provide any information, but they took the audio from trackidhelp's post.
Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as FatBird, JayKay, Q, Ofrix, S2h, 𝑀𝑟. 𝐶ℎ𝑖𝑝𝑠, AlianTheObscure, SpikeytheCactus, and multiple others, amassing over 10k views.

According to some, the song could have been an unreleased Shawn Benson track, due to Shawn’s voice sounding similar, his music style being similar, and him being from California. This has yet to be confirmed as Shawn passed away in the early 2000s.
