Beautiful Soup is a deleted track, played by an unidentified vocalist and pianist, from the 1951 Disney animated film Alice In Wonderland which lyrics were pulled from the poem sung by the character the Mock Turtle in Lewis Carroll's original. It is sung in the tune of Johan Strauss's Blue Danube Waltz.
The song was likely supposed to be sung by comedian Stan Freberg, who was also supposed to voice the Mock Turtle. Its demo recorded on August 1947 was later included in the 1995 compilation Alice in Wonderland: Exclusive Archive Collection released by LaserDisc and now circulated on YouTube.
History[]
A demo of the song was recorded on August 7th, 1947, composed by Don Raye and Gene de Paul. [1] The song was originally written for the Mock Turtle, however, the character and song were decided to delete probably for time constraints. No further information was announced.
On October 3rd 2014, YouTube user The22deltabravo uploaded the full song to their channel alongside the other deleted track Mock Turtle Soup Song, saying the vocalist is unknown under the video.
On March 1st 2023, user Daniel Celano removed the vocal from the song by using X-Minus and uploaded the instrumental to his channel.
Lyrics[]
Beautiful soup so rich and green
Waiting in a hot tureen
Who for such dainties would not stoop?
Soup of the evening
Beautiful soup
Soup of the evening
Beautiful soup
Beautiful sou-oop...
Beautiful soup
Soup of the evening...
Beautiful, beautiful soup!
Beautiful soup so rich and green
Waiting in a hot tureen
Who for such dainties would not stoop?
Pennyworth only of beautiful soup
Pennyworth only of beautiful soup
Beautiful sou-oop...
Beautiful soup
Soup of the evening
Beautiful, beautiful soup!
