Alone (formerly known as Tonight Alone or I’m Alone) is a formerly unidentified Italodisco/pop rock song by French musician Chris Cony, released in 1991 as a maxi-single with a club mix and instrumental version.

Search History

The song posted to WatZatSong on August 31st, 2017, by the user Ktrash. He said it was from the 1980s, but didn’t provide any information about where the song came from.

On the same day, user Barni asked if he had a longer snippet, and he said the 30 second snippet is all he had[1]. But it’s likely he wasn’t aware that the site autocropped the sample.

Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as Barni, JayKay, Q, Aero, Ofrix, SpikeytheCactus, 𝑀𝑟. 𝐶ℎ𝑖𝑝𝑠, LostwaveFinder, AlianTheObscure, Murphy, and multiple others, amassing over 6k views.

On July 5th, 2025, user Fatbird discovered the full version of the song in two YouTube uploads posted on a day before and a day after the original post. He also discovered a post on French music forum Eighties.fr[2], which read:

I have a problem: on an audio cassette (classy, right?) I recorded a song in the distant past, on an unknown radio station.“

In short, is it possible (and how) or do we have the right to make this mp3 available in order to know if a two-legged musical encyclopedia would be able to tell me what it is?”[3]

Around 15 hours later, YouTube user Cory Richert commented on Barni’s reupload, identifying the song as the radio mix of Alone by Chris Cony[4], presumably after he recognized it, as it had multiple reuploads on YouTube.

Lyrics

Tonight alone
I count the stars above
I’m on my own

I’m tired of crying
I’ve got to get somewhere
And this time, I’m trying
To banish the despair

I gotta fight for what I’m searching for
I’m alone
Hiding behind confusion, wasting time
I’m alone, come with me

My chance will come
to the show the world out there
That I’m someone

Oh I can fly
As high as I can see
This life is mine
And patience is the key

I gotta fight for what I’m searching for
I’m alone
Hiding behind confusion, wasting time
I’m alone, come with me

I gotta fight for what I’m searching for
I’m alone (come with me)
I’m hiding behind confusion, wasting time
I’m alone
Come with me

I gotta fight for what I’m searching for
I’m alone (come with me)
I’m hiding behind confusion, wasting time
I’m alone
Yeah

I gotta fight for what I’m searching for
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m alone (but I know)
I’m hiding behind confusion, wasting time
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m alone
I’m hiding behind confusion, wasting time
I’m alone
