Abyss is a formerly unidentified darkwave song by French Band Aus Berlin, recorded in 2003. It's another unique case of a song with a tagged artist being correct, similar to I'll Be There For You.

The song was posted to YouTube on July 7th, 2014, by user Grausig13, titling it “Aus-Berlin - Abysse”. The video’s description read:
“Please help me properly confirm or re-identify this band and any more info about them, or this track. The band is supposed to be called "Aus-Berlin." This song "Abysse" is all I can find by this band, recorded from an internet broadcast 11 years ago (2003).
The name "Aus-Berlin" could simply mean the band is "from Berlin." I think it may be a track from a compilation album. The common song and band titles are not helpful, and hard to trace any sources.
I love it--and would like to learn more about the band and any other releases they may have.
Is it one of those bands that only managed to record one song for a compilation? Is there a 12" or LP out there that is almost impossible to find because the name is so common?”
Over time, the song was reuploaded to YouTube by several users, such as Lost Music: Cold Case, Q, Murphy, and multiple others, amassing over 3k views.
On July 14th, 2025, three days after Q reuploaded the song, Discord user Techno161 discovered that it was mentioned on Last.fm and on a DJ set from January 4th, 2012. Less than an hour later, user Fin. found full audio of the song on the P2P site Nicotine+ with the metadata "rip axc" under the Aus Berlin name.
Two days after that, user Techno discovered a DJ mix with another Aus Berlin song called "Ocean" mentioned with a compilation called "Taenia-Solium"[1]. Then Discord user Murphy found a archived page which mentioned a website for Aus Berlin with the names of the guitarist and vocalist on it.
Then Techno discovered that the "axc" in the Nicotine+ file's metadata was for a record label called "Axess Code"[2] and a few minutes later Fin found a mention of "Aus Berlin - Abysse" on a archive of the site from 2003[3].
The next day, after being contacted by Backtodecember, the singer of the band Marjolin Beltrol uploaded a four song demo by the band, including versions of "Ocean" and "Abysse" which was actually called "Abyss" that had been overdubbed in 2009 due to protools file corruption, marking the song as solved.[4]

[The boiling water] has chains on my face
(?)
(?)
(?)
[Pre-Chorus]
Here comes the sound of waves
Here comes the sound of waves

I’m falling down through the abyss
I’m falling down through the abyss

(?) our soul
(?)
[I’ll be from] (?)
